With only 4 college radio shows left to highlight (8 hours of broadcast for 8 more “Music Monday” entries), taking a break to highlight 3 songs on my mind recently that also illustrate my eclectic musical tastes.
#1 “2nd Chance”
Shinedown
Released 09/09/2008, this song topped multiple charts between 2008 & 2009: US Alternative Songs, US Adult Top 40 & US Mainstream Rock. It also reached #7 on the US Billboard Hot 100 & #8 on the Hot Rock Songs charts. Easily my favorite song of this band, this tune (about life & goodbyes) has been relevant many times in my life over the past 10 years.

#2 “Bother”
Stone Sour
Hitting the airwaves 03/03/2003, I was introduced to this band & song by a good friend, Ryan, who I’d finally met in person a year or 2 earlier, after having chatted via the 1st Generation Monte Carlo Club a year or so. This song arguably put this band into the mainstream, reaching #2 on the US Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks, #4 on the US Hot Modern Rock Tracks, #27 on the US Adult Pop Songs & #56 on the US Billboard Hot 100 charts. Like the song above, this tune has been relevant to me many times since I 1st heard it while Ryan & I were traveling in his pickup from Forreston IL to Elizabeth IL over a holiday weekend visit.

#3 “I Never Really Loved You Anyway”
The Corrs
Released in late 1997, this song didn’t actually show up on any major US chart! I remember hearing it on the radio (particularly because parts of it remind me of the theme to CBS TV’s “Early Edition”), & I thought I was the only 1 … until a close friend played it out of the blue the other day while we were talking & confirmed he remembered it from when it was new, too. I was (& still am) amazed he knows the song; synchronicity perhaps?
