FYI: This theme includes 3 ongoing writings (& 1 completed), but “Face In The Crowd” will continue for the foreseeable future. Unlike “FITC” (which I’m publishing here by further writing & adapting from story arcs & characters a friend & I created over 20 years ago), I don’t have a ‘bible’ per se for my Route-66 based story & “The Newspaper Limo”. Since it has been ~2 years since I’ve added plots to either of those 2, I need to take time to review & refresh my memory of storylines I want to continue-work. Both will see new entries soon.

FACE IN THE CROWD
created spring 1995 in college by Erika E & OC,SH’s founder Cort; further written by Cort & now adapted to publish here

LAST TIME:

NOW:
Parts written during lunch at work, Tuesday, 05/25/1999 (last day of taping for TV’s “Another World”) & Friday, 05/28/1999

A doctor enters Jackie’s room & tells her the release paperwork is being processed for her to leave today. As the doctor leaves the room, Julia enters. Jackie is happy to see Julia, but notices something isn’t right with her daughter & asks. Somewhat reluctantly, Julia tells her Mom what is happening with herself, Richie & Erika. Jackie listens intently, expressing relief it is “finally over” with Erika & that Richie & Julia can get on with their lives. Julia hesitates, telling Jackie she (Julia) will not get back together with Richie because she cannot trust him. Jackie begins to tell Julia to “forgive & forget” so Julia & Richie can get back together, but Jackie is interrupted by the phone ringing. Startled, Jackie stares at the phone for a minute. In Jackie’s mind, she hears the cold, foreboding voice from before. Noticing her Mom’s hesitation, Julia reaches to answer the phone, but Jackie quickly darts to grab the phone before Julia can. Julia gives Jackie a quizzical look while Jackie cautiously answers the phone with “hello”. Jackie is instantly relieved to hear her other daughter’s (Alicia’s) voice. After talking a little bit, Alicia (who had explained 1 of the guards allowed her to call) & Jackie say goodbye & hang up. Jackie turns to Julia ready to continue their conversation about Richie, but Julia stops her by asking point blank: “What’s got you so scared!?”

In the hallway, Tammy is talking with a nurse about Olivia’s condition, while Becca is heading back to Camille’s room & is now within earshot. Becca hears Tammy tell the nurse: “This hospital better start taking better care of Olivia Thompson or it will be slapped with a lawsuit so fast heads will spin.” At the mention of Olivia’s name, Becca halts the wheelchair & turns shockingly white. She listens a little more closely to the voice & becomes even more alarmed as she seems to recognize the voice. But, Becca quickly shakes the feeling off & wheels into Camille’s room, where Bailey sees her & immediately says: “What’s wrong? You look like you’ve seen a ghost!” Becca does not respond; Bailey & Camille exchange a worried, knowing glance.

Mack goes to the police station to speak with Steve, but spots the “chaos” & opts not to approach Steve. Mack spots Cathy, who also offered to help Mack, but decides it best to leave Cathy alone right now, too. Mack leaves to go see Becca.

Having dashed away just after Wendleton was shot, Troc is now “hiding” at Wendleton’s place, knowing the police will arrive sooner or later. Troc considers packing his stuff & leaving town, but decides against it, knowing he can’t leave Vicky. Troc is uneasy because he has not heard from Vicky, though he suspects Vicky is with Wendleton in the hospital, 1 of many places he (Troc) cannot show his face.

NEXT TIME:
Parts written during lunch at work, Tuesday, 06/01/1999

(Tammy’s 1995 Toyota Camry, Mack’s 1973 Impala, Julia’s 2002 Pontiac Sunfire, Troc’s 1970 Chevelle)
