A Studebaker in front of an old station & caboose, seen at the 05/20/2017 Strawberry Classic Cruise-In, Plant City FL (photo by OC,SHer ERIC L). Can you picture when all of these were brand new? I have a model station that looks fairly similar to that for my HO-scale train set table!

Studebaker, based in S Bend IN, was founded in 1852 & incorporated in 1868 as Studebaker Brothers Manufacturing Company, producing wagons for farmers, miners & the military. Studebaker ventured into the automobile world with electric vehicles in 1902 & gasoline vehicles in 1904, all sold as Studebaker Automobile Company, tho the 1st gasoline automobiles fully manufactured by Studebaker debuted August 1912, after partnerships with Gayford Company (Elyria OH) & E-M-F Company. For ~50 years, Studebaker had a reputation for good quality & reliability, but after years of financial problems, merged with Packard in 1954. With Studebaker’s financial problems worse than Packard executives anticipated, the Packard name was phased out, returning to the Studebaker Corporation name in 1962. A year later, 12/20/1963, the S Bend IN plant ceased production & the last Studebaker was made in Canada, 03/17/1966.
