This section of the “Heart Matters” theme is for a smorgasbord of tidbits, historical notes, other interesting info or history &-or announcements … something different each day. Today, a congenital heart defect (CHD) related tidbit: CHDs are the most-common cause of infant deaths due to birth defects. 1 in 100 babies are born with 1 or more CHDs; over 85% of CHD babies now live to at least age 18. Interestingly, ~25% of children born with a CHD require surgery or other interventions to survive.
