“All the promises we made, 1 by 1 they vanish just the same … Now the days are so long that summer’s moving on, we reach for something that’s already gone … Of all the things I still remember, summer’s never looked the same; the years go by & time just seems to fly, but the memories remain … In the middle of September we’d still play out in the rain … Reflecting now on how things could’ve been, it was worth it in the end”
Tell me: when was the last time you stopped to see friends on a whim? Spontaneous visits, much like hand-written letters, seem to have gone out of style, & I’m not sure why! Oh, I know the busy-ness of life, along with keeping in touch (or, rather, telling ourselves we keep in touch) via social media, contributes to not taking the time to actually visit, but wouldn’t this world be better if we did stop along the way more often!?
Well, I spontaneously stopped to visit friends just this past Sunday evening, 09/17/2017. I was out driving for a different reason, when I happened down IL RT 31 just south of Beef Villa, where some long-time friends live. I steered my 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis LS into their neighborhood & pulled into their driveway. I hadn’t seen them in forever, so I wasn’t sure if they’d be home, or if they’d even want a visit. I arrived ~5:20, & ended up chatting with them for over 3 hours, leaving ~8:35p.
I 1st met Wayne & Pat through the former car club that held the cruise nights at Beef Villa, ~1999-2005 or so, where if you didn’t get there by 4:30p, it was tough to find a parking spot. Sunday evening, we caught up & discussed all sorts of things, & reminisced about those former cruise nights &, more importantly, the people who made that time special & felt like family. Camaraderie is the term Pat noted for it … & that’s another reason why I so want the official Old Cars, Strong Hearts Beef Villa Cruise Nights to attract more attendees. Maybe that’s an unattainable goal, but I still want to try.
Speaking of: the photo attached with this post is a teaser for the OC,SH original photos I took at the 09/16/2017 Cruise Night; you can see all those photos & more from prior Cruise Nights via THIS LINK HERE. Will I see you in the next few Saturdays!?
OC,SH ALERT
Regarding the full-schedule return, I’ve mentioned the possibility of the soft re-opening starting tomorrow, Wednesday, 09/20/2017, with a “grand re-opening Season Premiere Week” starting Monday, 09/25/2017. Well, neither is going to happen. Many factors have contributed to me not being ready for those original target dates, so both the soft re-opening & “Season Premiere Week” are delayed indefinitely. More later.
Meantime, while I know at this point I will never be able to fully catch up with all of YOUR posts, my plan is to visit your walls & pages sometime soon. Frustrating to me to know I’m missing out on what is important & happening in your life now, but given how difficult it has been for me to recover from the laptop baptismal & prepare to go back to the full schedule, I clearly need the break. Hope y’all understand.
Oh, BTW……………
…if you’ve read this far, you might be interested to know today is my birthday, #44. Just where has the time gone!? I’m taking the day off work, & my Aunt Chris & I are planning a leisurely drive north to Wisconsin.
