Ever seen a “Doodle Bug”!?

The display board leaning against the back of the truck cab has this info: “40,000 Doodle Bugs were manufactured in Webster City IA, 1946-48. Their brave little 1.5 horsepower engines propelled riders to a blistering 25mph on “Jumbo Junior” tires, so small that you can stick 1 inside your pants. It is not difficult to imagine fearless G.I. paratroopers buzzing around brutish Nazi Tiger tanks (on olive drab Doodle Bugs) sticking bombs into their unprotected orifices. That was the original plan & at a 100 miles to the gallon 1 doodle trooper could have flamed a lot of diesel-jockeys. A lack of military interest sent designer, George Fields, to a washing machine manufacturer, today known as Frigidaire. The factory still stands & about 150 Doodle Enthusiasts meet at The Reunion in the Bug’s ‘birth city’ accompanied by their very understanding wives. The little red fellows sold for $69.95 but inflation nudged the price to $142.00 during the last year of production.”
