This weekâs feature is Jo-El Sonnierâs âCome On Joeâ album & 2 tunes: âNo More 1 More Timeâ (Side 1) & âRaininâ In My Heartâ (Side 2). This weekâs featured interior: a 1978 Monte Carlo I almost ârescuedâ ~15 years ago; Iâd seen it parked along IL RT 47 near the US 24 interchange for a few years before seeing it on Craigslist. I contacted the seller & found out it had been owned by various members of 1 family its whole life & the current owner was a young kid whoâd lost his job, had no storage for it & none of his relatives wanted it. Sadly, Iâve no idea what happened to it.

âCome On Joeâ, 1987

This record (which I own on vinyl) features 9 tunes. Side 1 has 3 un-released songs âBaby Hold Onâ, âPaid The Priceâ & âSo Long Baby Goodbyeâ, along with 1988âs âNo More 1 More Timeâ (#7; his best-charting tune) & 1987-8âs âCome On Joeâ (#39). Side 2 features 1988-9âs âRaininâ In My Heartâ (#35), the un-released âLouisiana 1927â, 1988âs âTear-Stained Letterâ (#9) & the un-released âIâve Slipped Her Mindâ.
FEATURE SONG # 1:
âNo More 1 More Timeâ
While the un-released âBaby Hold Onâ & âSo Long Baby Goodbyeâ songs eventually climbed into my list of favorites, I bought this record for 1 song ⊠this tune. Debuting 02/20/1988, this single spent 22 weeks on the country charts & peaked at #7, eventually proving to be his highest-charting single [& it shouldâve reached higher marks on the charts, in my opinion]. The lyrics of this song spoke to me from the very 1st time I heard it on the radio, & it has been highly-relevant in my life many times since, including now. While I canât say my identification rate is 100%, it is quite high, into the 90+%s at least.

FEATURE SONG # 2:
âRaininâ In My Heartâ
Of the songs on Side 2, 1988âs âTear-Stained Letterâ [which I couldâve sworn charted higher than my favorite song on the album considering how much more I heard it on the radio when it was new] is my favorite, but this song also grabbed my attention. Released to radio 11/19/1988, Sonnierâs cover of this tune spent 12 weeks on the country charts & notched at #35 in early 1989. Written by Felice Bryant & Boudleaux Bryant, this song was originally recorded & released by Buddy Holly in 1959, with it notching at #88 on the Billboard charts as the B-side to âIt Doesnât Matter Anymoreâ. Many artists have covered it since, including Skeeter Davis, Connie Francis, Leo Sayer, Don McLean, Anne Murray, etc.
