In the 1970s & 1980s, Buick Regals (& their Buick siblings & GM cousins) were everywhere. The Regal was downsized for 1978, a year after the mid-size GMs were technically larger than the full-sizers which had lost weight & stature for 1977. In 1980, a year before the downsized version was re-styled, Buick offered a special Somerset edition, featuring unique tan or dark blue designer exterior paint, sport mirrors & wire wheel covers. Despite the design change for 1981, Buick once again offered the Somerset edition, but this time with unique dark sandstone or camel exterior pant, sport mirrors & turbine wheels. Some equated this limited edition to the 1980-81 Monte Carlo Turbo Coupe.
