This new OC,SH original collage, of pictures taken in 2002, was sparked by a seemingly unlikely source! Ever have a sense of being jarred back into a distant memory?

This past Saturday, 07/29/2017, was my Niece #2’s 1st birthday; my sister & bro-in-law hosted a family party to celebrate. On the way back from that, I turned left (east) onto Elgin IL’s Highland Ave from Randall Rd, a pathway I’ve driven many times. But, this time, as I rounded the curve approaching the parking lot for the New Life Covenant Church, the sunlight was at the exact same angle it was when I met late OC,SHer & good friend Ray Buck in early 2002 in that very parking lot, where he took the photo in the center of this collage; you can see Ray’s shadow in the bottom right corner of that center image.

Back then, Ray was on a cross country road trip of his own to deliver a pair of Novas on the east coast. He stopped to see me; after our initial meeting at the parking lot, he rode with me to OC,SHer PHIL K’s former home, where my cars were stored at the time, & snapped the other 4 images in this collage (that’s me in the lower left image), among others. Last Saturday, while I continued driving my 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis LS past that church lot, I had to catch my breath as memories of that 2002 visit with Ray (with whom I stayed in his home during 2 of my road trips, October 2004 & mid 2011) raced through my mind. Talk about a startling way to have a rush of memories!
