CD SHOWCASE MEMORIES

3 songs from the 3rd hour (9p-10p) of my 04/13/1996 college radio show: Eddy Raven’s “Right Hand Man”, Rosanne Cash’s “7 Year Ache” & Johnny Lee’s “Bet Your Heart On Me”. Also featured: OC,SH original photo I took 10/22/2011 (during 1 of my then drives to explore the area) of a barn along Ramm Rd just outside Burlington IL.

#1
“Right Hand Man”
Eddy Raven
[For more info about ER’s hits & history, check out the 07/27/2015 “CD Showcase Memories” entry via THIS LINK HERE & the 06/13/2017 “Turntable Tuesday” entry via THIS LINK HERE.] I distinctly remember this song from my youth; back then, I really didn’t understand the meanings behind it. Now, I do. This single debuted 11/15/1986, spent 24 weeks on the country charts & peaked at #3 in early 1987. At the time, it was Raven’s 8th straight Top 10 tune; the string stretched to 17 Top 10s in a row, ending with 1990’s “Island” (#10) after starting with 1984’s “I Got Mexico” (#1). After the stretch ended, Raven released 4 more tunes through mid 1991 before calling it quits; prior to the stretch, he’d released 19 songs between early 1974 & late 1982, with only 4 reaching the Top 20 & only 1 of those cracking the Top 10: 1982’s “She’s Playing Hard To Forget” (#10).

#2
“7 Year Ache”
Rosanne Cash
[For more info about RC’s hits & history, check out the 07/27/2016 “Wednesday Wrap” entry via THIS LINK HERE, the 01/24/2016 “Turntable Tuesday” entry via THIS LINK HERE & the 05/13/2017” “Smorgasbord Saturday” entry via THIS LINK HERE.] I don’t know why, but this is, without a doubt, 1 of my all-time favorite tunes (admittedly, among many) from my youth. I think this song caught my attention because I always tried to picture the scenes depicted. Hitting the airwaves 02/21/1981, this single spent 19 weeks on the country charts & claimed #1; it crossed over & reached #22 on the Billboard Hot 100. At the time, it was her 4th overall release & her 1st Top 10 tune; it sparked a run of 5 straight Top 10 tunes, the 1st 3 of which all hit #1 on the country charts.

#3
“Bet Your Heart On Me”
Johnny Lee
[For more info about JL’s hits & history, check out the 04/30/2016 “CarTunes Saturday” entry via THIS LINK HERE & the 02/18/2017 “Smorgasbord Saturday” entry via THIS LINK HERE.] I can’t say this is 1 of my favorite tunes, but it is 1 I’ve identified with a few too many times … wishing a special someone would give me a chance. Debuting on the airwaves 10/03/1981, this song spent 15 weeks on the country charts & claimed #1. It was his 1st chart topper since a pair of well-known hits: 1980’s “Lookin’ For Love” & 1980’s “1 In A Million”. His last chart topper is a favorite of mine: 1984’s “You Could’ve Heard A Heart Break”.
