“Fantasy Island”, an eccentric & eclectic series, originally aired 01/14/1977 to 05/19/1984. Introduced to viewers via a pair of made-for-TV movies airing in early 1977 & 1978, this series, according to Aaron Spelling, was pitched as a joke, after ABC executive Brandon Stoddard rejected ~6 of his ideas-plans. When Stoddard jumped on Spelling’s blurted out idea, the network wanted Orson Welles in the roll of Roarke, but Spelling denied that request. The series settled into its regular Saturday night position (after “The Love Boat”) for the 1978-79 season & employed many celebrity guest stars, too. Filmed primarily in Burbank CA, the opening scenes of the island were actually the coastline of Kauai HI. The house with the bell tower is the Queen Anne Cottage (behind which the plane & arriving guests were filmed) in the LA County Arboretum & Botanic Garden, Arcadia CA. The main cast includes Ricardo Montalban, Herve Villechaize, Wendy Schaal & Christopher Hewitt.
