CD SHOWCASE MEMORIES

2 songs from the 3rd hour (9p-10p) of my 03/30/1996 college radio show: Mark Chesnutt’s “I’ll Think Of Something” & Lee Roy Parnell’s “What Kind Of Fool Do You Think I Am”. Also featured: train muriel photographed by OC,SHer ERIC L during his work trip from FL to GA the week of 03/06/2017.

#1
“I’ll Think Of Something”
Mark Chesnutt
This single debuted 06/13/1992, spent 20 weeks on the county charts & claimed #1, becoming his 2nd chart topper, behind 1990-1’s “Brother Jukebox” (2 weeks). This song was an immediate favorite of mine & continues that to this day because of its relevance in my life many different times, including recently; I think we all can identify with the concept-experience in some way. This Beaumont TX-native singer-songwriter-guitarist played drums in a local rock band in the 1980s. His debut single, 1990’s “Too Cold At Home”, spent 3 weeks at #3, sparking a string of 12 straight Top 10s to start his career. Other familiar favorites include 1991-2’s “Broken Promised Land” (#10), 1993’s “It Sure Is Monday” (#1), 1993’s “Almost Goodbye” (#1), 1993-4’s “I Just Wanted You To Know” (#1), 1995’s “Down In Tennessee” (#23) & 1996-7’s “It’s A Little Too Late” (#1, 2 weeks), after which is career started to fade, with only 3 of his last 19 releases reaching the Top 10.

#2
“What Kind Of Fool Do You Think I Am”
Lee Roy Parnell
This tune hit the airwaves 05/16/1992 & spent 20 weeks on the charts, 2 of those at its peak of #2. I have related to this song MANY times, & I’m guessing we all have in some way, shape or form. Feeling like a fool is NOT fun, so we try to make sure we are never that again … which works most (part?!) of the time…. This Stephenville TX-native singer-songwriter-guitarist’s career was brief with 21 releases between mid 1990 & mid-late 1999, with 1 more in 2004. After 4 releases that didn’t crack the Top 40, this single was his 1st Top 10 tune, sparking a stretch of 5 straight Top 10s. Of his then remaining 13 releases, only 2 reached the Top 10. Other familiar favorites include 1993’s “Tender Moment” (#2), 1993’s “On The Road” (#6, my favorite of his!), 1994’s “I’m Holding My Own” (#3) & 1996’s “Heart’s Desire” (#3, 2 weeks).
