What catches your spying-eye radar in this OC,SH original photo, taken by me with my grandparents’ [Mom’s parents] Polaroid camera at the Church of the Brethren Annual Conference in Indianapolis IN, 06/1981?!

In the 2nd row from the bottom, 4th car from the right, is “my” car
the 1 that sparked my automotive love affair
my parents’ former 1976 Monte Carlo (Dad is standing at the rear of the car). In the 3rd row from the bottom & all the way to the right is my grandparents’ 1978 Plymouth Horizon.
Dad, Mom, Sis & I had gone to Pennsylvania to see Dad’s family, then traveled to Indianapolis IN (where my grandparents already were) for the rest of the conference.

A bit more to this story: in the early AM hours of 03/19/2017, I read the weekly update email from the church. In the “bits” section, was a note about a video that recently surfaced of country music singer Slim Whitman performing at the 1982 annual conference in Wichita KS. ‘Cool’, I thought, while going to YT to watch the video, ‘I have pics from that conference.’ But, then, I happened to think of the details of those photos taken from Gram & Gramps’ hotel room looking at the parking lot. I paused the video & rushed to look at the Polaroids. When I received them from Gram in the late 1990s, I had asked her when & where they were taken. Our conversation went something like this:
‘At the conference in Wichita KS, whenever that was,’ Gram had quickly answered.
‘Well, it had to have been somewhere between 1978 & 1983,’ I replied, ‘because that orange car is your 1978 Horizon & that’s the ’76 MC.’
‘Well, then it must’ve been the early 1980s.’
‘OK, but, then, why did we take 2 cars? You & Gramps always rode with us on road trips, even in the ’76.’
‘Hmm, well, we would’ve been in Lena, so that would’ve been out of your folks’ way to pick us up.’
‘No, you would’ve been in Batavia; you didn’t buy the Horizon until you were in Batavia.’
‘You’re right. Oh, that’s it
Gramps was still pastoring & we had to be there before your folks wanted to be there, so we drove 2 cars.’
That explanation was just fine with me
until March 2017. Dad & Mom bought the 1981 MC (which I still have) in MAY 1982, well before the June-July 1982 conference. Later during 03/19/2017, when I showed Mom the pic & asked her about it, she found a nearly identical image in her albums, dated. Comparing it to slides my parents took in the respective timeframes, we theorized why Gram had thought incorrectly (conference memories melding together) & what actually happened (the detour to PA before IN).
