CD SHOWCASE MEMORIES
2 songs from my Friday, 03/29/1996, “CD Showcase” (12p-1p) college radio show: George Strait’s “Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind” & “Baby’s Gotten Good At Goodbye”. Also featured, a vintage home in GA (photo by OC,SHer ERIC L during his work trip to GA from FL the week of 03/06/2017).
The songs featured below are both from George Strait & were the mid-show twin spin that I did for each of my Monday & Friday college radio shows. For more about GS’s hits & history, check out the 03/12/2016 “CarTunes Saturday” entry via THIS LINK HERE.

“Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind”
This song debuted 09/29/1984, spent 23 weeks on the country charts & claimed #1. At the time, it was the last 5 of straight chart toppers, including 1983’s “A Fire I Can’t Put Out”, 1983-4’s “You Looks So Good In Love”, 1984’s “Right Or Wrong” & 1984’s “Let’s Fall To Pieces Together”. My favorite of those 5 is the 1983-4 tune, with none of the others really registering with me & some, including this tune, leaving me wonder how this got to the top of the charts & other songs I like better didn’t! I’m sure all of us can relate to that phenomenon, right?

“Baby’s Gotten Good At Goodbye”
Unlike the above tune, this song has resonated with me in different ways many different times over the years. Originally gracing the airwaves 01/21/1989, this single spent 18 weeks on the country charts & peaked at the top. At the time, it was his 9th straight chart topper, with 2 more to follow. That string of 11 chart toppers dated back to 1986’s “Nobody In His Right Mind Would’ve Left Her”.
