CD SHOWCASE MEMORIES

Spinning the records

& turning the tables on automotive photos!

This week’s feature is Marie Osmond’s ‘I Only Wanted You’ album & 2 tunes: “You’re Still New To Me” (Side 1) & “Everybody’s Crazy ‘Bout My Baby” (Side 2). This week’s featured interior: 1964 Pontiac Tempest currently owned by OC,SHer TODD R (who took the photo) & originally owned by Todd’s Dad who bought it brand new.

ALBUM:
‘I Only Wanted You’, 1986
ARTIST:
Marie Osmond

This record (which I own on vinyl) is MO’s 6th solo studio album & features 10 tunes. Side 1 has 1987’s “Cry Just A Little” (#50), 1986-7’s “I Only Wanted You” (#14), 1986’s “You’re Still New To Me” (#1; duet with Paul Davis) & the unreleased “Making Magic” & “I Know The Feeling”. Side 2 features the unreleased “Your Love Carries Me”, “We’re Gonna Need A Love Song”, “New Love” & “More Than Dancing”, along with 1987’s “Everybody’s Crazy ‘Bout My Baby” (#24).

FEATURE SONG # 1:
“You’re Still New To Me”
Without a doubt, I purchased this record basically for 1 song, the title track which has been previously featured. None of the unreleased songs really resonated with me, so 2 of her released tunes are being featured. This single, a duet with Paul Davis, was the 1st song released from the album; it hit the airwaves 08/30/1986 & spent 21 weeks on the country charts, claiming #1, the only Top 10 of the album (much to my dismay) & marking her 4th chart topper.

FEATURE SONG # 2:
“Everybody’s Crazy ‘Bout My Baby”
This song, along with the title track, should’ve notched higher on the charts, at least in my opinion. This song debuted 04/11/1987, spent 13 weeks on the country charts & peaked at #24. Despite 8 more releases between mid-late 1987 & early 1995, this song turned out to be her last Top 25 tune, though, again in my opinion, at least 1 of those later releases should’ve reached higher on the charts.
