CD SHOWCASE MEMORIES

Spinning the records

& turning the tables on automotive photos!

This week’s feature is KT Oslin’s ‘80’s Ladies’ album & 2 tunes: “Younger Men” (Side A) & “Do Ya’” (Side B). This week’s featured interior: Fiat (05/15/2016 photo by OC,SHer BEN M, Buffalo Grove IL; car was also featured in the 07/02/2016 “CarTunes Saturday” entry via THIS LINK HERE & the 07/09/2016 “CarTunes Saturday” entry via THIS LINK HERE).

ALBUM:
‘80’s Ladies’, 1987
ARTIST:
KT Oslin
For more about KT’s hits & history, see the 07/11/2015 “CD Showcase Memories” entry via THIS LINK HERE, the 11/04/2015 “Wednesday Wrap” entry via THIS LINK HERE, the 10/08/2016 “CarTunes Saturday” entry via THIS LINK HERE & the 03/04/2017 “Smorgasbord Saturday” entry via THIS LINK HERE. This record (which I own on vinyl), her debut album, features 9 tunes. Side A has 1987’s “Wall Of Tears” (#40), 1988’s “I’ll Always Come Back” (#1), the unreleased “Younger Men” & 1987’s “80’s Ladies” (#7; Song Of The Year & Female Vocal Grammys). Side B features 1987’s “Do Ya’” (#1) & 4 unreleased tunes: “2 Hearts”, “Dr Dr”, “Lonely But Only For You” & “Old Pictures”.

FEATURE SONG # 1:
“Younger Men”
This unreleased single is probably that status because of its risque-ness. It is a catchy tune, putting her in the “cougar” category, which she definitely was at the time of this album. Unlike most artists, she was 45, nearing 46, when this, her debut, was released. Even so, she enjoyed some wonderful success in her albeit brief career, leaving her mark on late 1980s & early 1990s country music.

FEATURE SONG #2
“Do Ya’”
I can’t say many of the songs on Side B grabbed my attention; the only 1 that did was the unreleased “Old Pictures”, featured in the 11/04/2015 “Wednesday Wrap” linked above. While that song became a favorite of mine, THIS song garnered a milestone for this artist. Debuting 09/12/1987 (a week before my birthday), this tune spent 25 weeks on the country charts & claimed #1, her 1st chart topper. This single was the follow-up release to her 1st Top 10, the album’s title track, which reached #7 & earned her 2 Grammys.
