CD SHOWCASE MEMORIES
3 songs from the 3rd hour (9p-10p) of my 03/09/1996 college radio show: Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues”, George Jones’ “Why Baby Why” & Rosanne Cash’s “I Don’t Know Why You Don’t Want Me”. Also featured: neat, after-rain sunset with a double rainbow at a pier with a light house

“Folsom Prison Blues”
Johnny Cash
[For more of JC’s hits & history, check out the 07/10/2015 “CD Showcase Memories” entry via THIS LINK HERE & the 01/21/2017 “Smorgasbord Saturday” entry via THIS LINK HERE.] This song from this very versatile artist originally hit the airwaves 02/11/1956, spent 20 weeks on the country charts & peaked at #4; this version, his 3rd overall release, earned him the Hall Of Fame Grammy. Just over 12 years later, Cash released a new version of the song; that edition debuted 06/01/1968 & spent 18 weeks on the country charts, 4 of those at #1. It also crossed over & peaked at #32 on the Billboard Hot 100, while winning him the Country Male Vocal Grammy.
#2
“Why Baby Why”
George Jones
[For more of GJ’s hits & history, check out the 09/24/2016 “CarTunes Saturday” entry via THIS LINK HERE.] Debuting 10/29/1955, this song spent 18 weeks on the country charts & peaked at #4, sparking a career that lasted through 2011 with over 160 releases, 13 chart toppers & countless Top 10 tunes. 5 additional tunes after this single peaked in the Top 10, giving him 6 straight Top 10 singles to start his illustrious career.

“I Don’t Know Why You Don’t Want Me”
Rosanne Cash
[For more of RC’s hits & history, check out the 07/27/2016 “Wednesday Wrap” entry via THIS LINK HERE & the 01/24/2017 “Turntable Tuesday” entry via THIS LINK HERE.] This is 1 of those songs that has never gone out-of-style for me; seems it has been relevant to situations more often than not, though I wouldn’t say that’s necessarily bad…. This single debuted 06/01/1985, spent 24 weeks on the country charts & claimed #1. She was awarded the Country Female Vocal Grammy for her efforts. It was her 4th chart topper of 11 in her short career, mid-late 1979 to early 1991, which included 25 releases & 5 additional Top 10s.
