Do you remember this series!?
What catches your spying-eye radar!?
âSweating Bulletsâ was a favorite of mine that Iâm guessing not too many (if any) people remember! Originally known as âTropical Heatâ in Canada, this series made its way to the States 04/08/1991 to 10/18/1993 as part of CBSâ âCrimetime After Primetimeâ experiment; it aired Monday nights. The show, produced in cooperation with Mexico & Israel, ran for 3 seasons: Season 1 was filmed in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (due to the tax breaks under NAFTA); Season 2 was filmed in Eilat Israel; & Season 3 was filmed in Pretoria, South Africa (with some sequences shot in Mauritius). Interestingly, the series became so popular in Serbia, it gained cult status, which no one with the series knew until Canadian actor Rob Stewart (who played âNick Slaughterâ) stumbled across a Facebook group. In the series, Slaughter is an ex-DEA agent who has relocated to (fictional resort town) Key Mariah FL & teams up with a local tourist agent to solve cases. A sequel film, âCriss Crossâ, was released in 2001. The show cast includes, along with Stewart: Carolyn Dunn (âSylvia Girardâ, the local tourist agent), John David Bland (âIan Stewartâ), Ian Tracey (âSpider Garvinâ), Eugene Clark (âOllie Porterâ), Pedro Armendariz jr (âLt Carilloâ), Ari Sorko-Ram (âSgt Gregoryâ), Allen Nashman (âRollieâ) & Graeme Campbell (âRupertâ).
As for CBSâ experiment, it was a group of crime-investigation shows that aired in late night, after the late local news. It was supposed to debut January 1991 but was delayed due to the Gulf War. Prior to 1989, CBS had aired a similar block entitled âCBS Late Nightâ. That was canceled to make room for the ill-fated âThe Pat Sajak Showâ, which then was replaced by a series of news, talk shows, reruns & adult game shows. Other series in the âCrimetime After Primetimeâ block, which was canceled to make way for David Letterman, include: Tuesdayâs âForever Knightâ & âThe Exileâ, Wednesdayâs âScene Of The Crimeâ & âDangerous Curvesâ, Thursdayâs âFly By Nightâ & âSilk Stalkingsâ, Fridayâs âDark Justiceâ.
