[For more about NGDBâs hits & history, see the 09/17/2016 âCarTunes Saturdayâ entry via THIS LINK HERE, the 11/15/2015 âCarTunes Saturdayâ entry via THIS LINK HERE, the 08/28/2015 âCD Showcase Memoriesâ entry via THIS LINK HEREÂ & last weekâs âTurntable Tuesdayâ entry via THIS LINK HERE.] This record (which I own on vinyl) is subtitled âThe Best Of The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Vol IIâ & features 10 great tunes. Side 1 has the unreleased âCadillac Ranchâ (written by Bruce Springsteen), 1988âs âIâve Been Lookinââ (#2), 1987-8âs âOh What A Loveâ (#5), 1988âs âWorkinâ Manâ (#4) & 1984âs âI Love Only Youâ (#3, 2 weeks). Side 2 features 1987âs âFishinâ In The Darkâ (#1), 1987âs âBabyâs Got A Hold On Meâ (#2), the unreleased âFace On The Cutting Room Floorâ, 1988-9âs âDown That Road Tonightâ (#6) & 1985-6âs âHome Again In My Heartâ (#3).
FEATURE SONG # 1:
âCadillac Ranchâ
Since I canât decide between the released tunes, I am featuring 2 un-released singles, which I loved to play & showcase on my radio shows. This song, for what should be obvious reasons, quickly became a favorite of mine. Written by Bruce Springsteen for his 1980 album âThe Riverâ, it was released as a single in Europe, but not in the United States. Even so, it managed to notch at #48 on the Maintream Rock Tracks chart. Other covers include Rick Trevino, Status Quo, Warren Zevon & Lord Horror (with lyrics to the tune of New Orderâs âBlue Mondayâ). Real-life people mentioned in the song include Burt Reynolds, Junior Johnson & James Dean; the name is inspired by the Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo TX along Route 66.
FEATURE SONG # 2:
âFace On The Cutting Room Floorâ
I canât say this is a favorite of mine; however, I knew when hosting my radio shows that not everyone will like the songs I like, & some songs I donât like, others will. Thus, Iâm featuring this tune, which was written by the famous Steve Goodman, whose major tunes also include the now-famous âGo Cubs Goâ & âCity Of New Orleansâ.
