“She’s Like The Wind”
Patrick Swayze
This power ballad is from the 1987 movie ‘Dirty Dancing’. Though Swayze is the primary vocalist, Wendy Fraser (heard through much of the song, mainly the final chorus) is given credit in the billing. Written by Swayze & Stacy Widelitz 3 years earlier (1984), the song was intended for the soundtrack of the movie ‘Grandview, USA’, specifically for Jamie Lee Curtis’ character; however, the song was dropped by the final version. So, during filming of ‘DD’, Swayze played the demo of this song for Producer Linda Gottlieb & Director Emile Ardolino, both of whom loved the song & encouraged the soundtrack’s Executive Producers Jimmy Lenner & Bob Fieden to include it. This version was recorded for the motion picture November 1986 & released to radio in early 1987; the single peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 & claimed #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart. Internationally, it reached the Top 20 in several other countries, including #6 in Australia, #15 in Austria, #14 in Germany, #4 in Ireland, #7 in Norway , #13 in S Africa, #8 in Sweden & #17 in the UK.

“Letting Go”
Suzy Bogguss
[For more info about SB’s hits & history, check out the 10/29/2016 “CarTunes Saturday” entry via THIS LINK HERE & the 04/15/2017 “Smorgasbord Saturday” entry via THIS LINK HERE.] This poignant song debuted just before I left for college in late summer 1992; while many parts I don’t identify with completely, it still has a ton of meaning for-to me. Hitting the airwaves 08/15/1992, this single spent 20 weeks on the charts & peaked at #6. Frankly, it is 1 of several SB songs which should’ve notched at the top of the charts.
