#1
“I Love”
Tom T Hall
This song debuted 11/10/1973 & spent 18 weeks on the country charts, 2 of those at #1 in early 1974; the tune crossed over & notched at #12 on the Billboard Hot 100. This single came in the midst of this Olive Hill KY-native singer-songwriter-guitarist’s career, which spanned mid-late 1967 to late 1986. He had been a DJ at WMOR (Morehead KY) & added the “T” when he started singing. Known as “The Storyteller”, he also hosted TV’s “Pop Goes The Country”. Of his 54 releases, 7 topped the country charts, while 14 more reached the Top 10. Familiar favorites include: 1969-70’s “A Week In A Country Jail” (#1, 2 weeks; his 1st chart topper), 1971’s “The Year That Clayton Delaney Died” (#1, 2 weeks; a favorite of mine), 1972-3’s “Watermelon Wine” (#1), 1975’s “I Like Beer” (#4) & 1984’s “P.S. I Love You” (#8).
