[new day]
Now in Phoenix AZ, Jake pulls his new pickup into a restaurant parking lot. He turns the truck off & begins to wait for something or someone.
Cathy opts to return to work & goes to do some visiting at the hospital. She stops to see Mack 1st. Mack tells Cathy about Olivia’s “false” exit from her coma.
Tammy, in Olivia’s room, is talking with a nurse about Olivia’s condition. The nurse tells Tammy about the “episode” yesterday; Tammy gets excited that Olivia might be coming out of her coma. However, the nurse stresses yesterday’s “episode” does not mean anything at all, though Tammy seems convinced otherwise.
Steve returns to work to continue the current 3 investigations. Jackie calls to ask about Alicia, telling Steve what happened with the guard the previous afternoon. Steve promises to check it out. As he hangs up the phone, Steve is handed a note that indicates the university bomber has been released from prison because her bail has been paid.
Wendleton & Vicky arrive at the jail. They meet with the guard who had spoken with Jackie. The guard hands Alicia’s pants to Wendleton, murmuring he does not understand why they are interested in them. Wendleton hands them to Vicky, who turns away. Wendleton explains to the guard it really is none of his (the guard’s) business about why they are interested in the pants. Meanwhile, Vicky, hiding her actions from view, pulls the tape recorder from the pocket. While she turns back around, she quickly tosses the pants back at the guard, who barely catches them. The guard gives Vicky a “what was that” look, but Vicky ignores him. Wendleton motions to Vicky to leave, & while they start to do so, Wendleton reminds the guard his money will arrive within 24 hours. While walking out, Wendleton & Vicky pass by the crime-evidence lab. Vicky keeps the lab guard busy so Wendleton can steal some reports. Wendleton & Vicky then quickly leave.
Desmond, Virginia, Carl & Richie are at the mansion, continuing to reminisce about Matthew & grieve his death. They are also waiting & worrying about Donnie, who is still missing.
Amy decides to go back to work & is at the TV station directing the news division, partly to be sure they continue to run the spots about the missing boys. Per Timothy’s request, Amy also spearheads a project to get spots running about missing Michelle, too. Christine stops at the TV station to chat with Amy. Christine asks Amy how Carl is doing. Amy tells her he is doing OK, but advises Christine to go see him. Christine tilts her head to ponder Amy’s suggestion, & quickly decides to do just that. So, she leaves the TV station en route to see Carl. After Christine leaves, some of the TV personnel approach Amy, asking her who, with Matthew’s death, will run the station now.
Michelle wakes up to find herself in her university office with Troc. Michelle asks him how they got there. Troc lies, telling Michelle she asked him to bring her here, even giving him her office key. Michelle says she cannot quite believe she would do that, but admits she does not remember anything about last night. So, Michelle accepts Troc’s explanation.
Waking up, Donnie sees Adam carefully studying the room. Donnie asks again if they are going to die. Adam evades the question & turns Donnie’s attention away from that topic by asking him to help look for ways to escape. At this point, Barry wakes up. Having heard Adam’s direction, Barry tells both of them it is no use.
At home, Erika tries to contact Jake, to no avail. Julia arrives at Erika’s.
Deciding he needs Steve’s help to find Michelle (despite what finding her will mean in regards to charges stemming from the collision she caused), Timothy heads to the police station.
A hospital nurse calls Carl at home to tell him that a Mr & Mrs McCoy need to speak with him in the next few days regarding a patient being transferred soon. Carl is about to agree to speak to them today when Christine enters the room. He tells the nurse he will call them soon.
NOTE: At this point, to make sure no story lines prior to the Michael-Matthew fatal collision were dropped, I took lunch at work Monday (01/18/1999) & Tuesday (01/19/1999) to review notes.
