What catches your spying-eye radar!?

‘Meet The Parents’ is a comedy that hit theaters Friday, 10/06/2000, the day after “Gilmore Girls” (featured in this week’s “TV Tuesday” via THIS LINK HERE) debuted. Written by Jim Herzfeld & John Hamburg, this movie, directed by Jay Roach, is a remake of a 1992 film of the same name directed by Greg Glienna & produced by Jim Vincent. Herzfeld expanded the original script, which Roach read & was immediately interested in directing. However, Universal was initially interested in having Steven Spielberg direct it with Jim Carrey in the lead role. It was only after Spielberg & Carrey left the project that Roach was approached to direct the film. With Herzfeld & Roach on the project, Hamburg was brought in after the cast was set to help fit the script to the verbal styles of the cast members. Well received by critics & fans, this motion picture not only earned back its initial budget ($55 million) in 11 days, but it ended up as 1 of the highest-grossing films of the year (2000). This success inspired 2 movie sequels (2004’s ‘Meet The Fockers’ & 2010’s ‘Little Fockers’) along with a reality TV series “Meet My Folks” & a sitcom “In-Laws”, both debuting in 2002 & lasting only 1 season. The cast includes Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller, Teri Polo, Blythe Danner, Nicole DeHuff, Jon Abrahams, Owen Wilson, James Rebhorn, Thomas McCarthy & Phyllis George.
