CD SHOWCASE MEMORIES

3 songs from my Monday, 03/04/1996, “CD Showcase” (12p-1p) college radio show: Suzy Bogguss’ “Aces”, Patty Loveless’ “Blame It On Your Heart” & Brooks & Dunn’s “Brand New Man”. Also featured: a Jaguar XJ 12 hood art-ified with stylized engine parts by OC,SHer ISSZY-BRETT’s daughter, Kristen:

#1
“Aces”
Suzy Bogguss
[For more info about SB’s hits & history, check out the 10/29/2016 “CarTunes Saturday” entry via THIS LINK HERE.] This poignant tune hit the airwaves 04/04/1992, spent 20 weeks on the country charts & peaked at #9, the 2nd in a stretch of 4 Top 10 tunes. Frankly, after seeing Suzy in a Holiday concert (see info in the prior feature noted earlier), I am convinced she is an underrated singer … & this song is more evidence. I think it should’ve reached at least the Top 5, given the message, the other side of feeling dejected or ignored or forgotten….

#2
“Blame It On Your Heart”
Patty Loveless
[For more info about PL’s hits & history, check out the 07/06/2015 “CD Showcase Memories” entry via THIS LINK HERE.] This upbeat “not taking it anymore” tune debuted 04/03/1993 & spent 20 weeks on the country charts, 2 of those at #1. It was her 3rd of 5 chart toppers during her career, including 1989’s “Timber, I’m Falling In Love”, 1990’s “Chains”, 1995-6’s “You Can Feel Bad” (2 weeks; a favorite of mine) & 1996’s “Lonely Too Long”. I also saw her in concert … at a venue in Nashville TN during a family vacation summer 1996.

#3
“Brand New Man”
Brooks & Dunn
[For more info about B&D’s hits & history, check out the 07/23/2016 “CarTunes Saturday” entry via THIS LINK HERE.] This duo knows how to make an entrance. Entering radio playlists 06/22/1991 as their debut single, this song spent 20 weeks on the country charts, 2 of those at #1. Their career took off from there, complete with 4 straight multi-week chart toppers to kick off their career including 1991’s “My Next Broken Heart” (2 weeks), 1992’s “Neon Moon” (2 weeks) & 1992’s “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” (4 weeks). This song in particular has been relevant for me many times in my life….
