Have you seen this movie!?
What catches your spying-eye radar!?
With the MLB season starting this week, a look at âMr Baseballâ, a sports comedy film that debuted in theaters 10/02/1992. According to director Fred Schepisi, the original promise of the film (exploring cultural differences between Japan & the US) was conceived after the success of 1989âs âMajor Leagueâ, but several writers later (Theo Pelletier, John Junkerman, Gary Ross, Kevin Wade & Monte Merrick), the movie was much more conventional than intentioned. Filming was primarily in & around Nagoya, where the main stadium used is, with additional filming in Tokyo, Florida & New York. The namesake team (Chunichi Dragons) wears uniforms inspired by the Los Angeles Dodgers uniforms. Debuting to mixed reviews, the motion picture grossed over $5 million in its opening weekend to place 3rd behind âThe Last Of The Mohicansâ & âThe Mighty Ducksâ. The cast includes Tom Selleck (main character, âJack Elliottâ, who is traded by the New York Yankees to the Dragons in spring training & ends up as a coach with the Detroit Tigers, Selleckâs favorite team; he wore the same Tigers cap he donned during the hit TV series âMagnum PIâ, previously featured in the 11/03/2015 âTuesday TVâ entry via THIS LINK HERE), Ken Takakura, Aya Takanashi, Dennis Haysbert, Toshi Shioya, Nicholas Cascone, Kosuke Toyohara, Toshizo Fujiwara, Charles Fick, Leon Lee, Bradley Lesley & Frank Thomas (as âRicky Davisâ, the rookie phenom the Yankees favored in place of âElliottâ; Thomasâ career includes 1990-2005 with the Chicago White Sox).
