#1
“I Can Help”
Billy Swan
This song debuted 10/12/1974 & spent 14 weeks on the country charts, 2 of those at #1; it crossed over & claimed #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 2 weeks as well, while also notching at #1 in Canada, Germany & Australia. This Cape Girardeau MO-native singer-songwriter-pianist was a 1-hit wonder; of 15 more country singles released between mid 1975 & early 1987, only 4 more even cracked the Top 25: 1975’s “Everything’s The Same” (#17), 1981’s “Do I Have To Draw A Picture” (#18), 1981’s “I’m Into Lovin’ You” (#18) & 1981-2’s “Stuck Right In The Middle Of Your Love” (#19).

#2
“Good Ol’ Boys”
Waylon Jennings
[For more info about WJ’s hits & history, check out the 10/22/2016 “CarTunes Saturday” entry via THIS LINK HERE.] Better known as simply “Theme From The Dukes Of Hazzard”, this full-length version of the single debuted 08/23/1980 & did not take long to reach the top, spending just 17 weeks on the country charts while claiming #1; it landed at #21 on the Billboard Hot 100. At the time I played this song on this radio show, “The Dukes Of Hazzard” (previously featured in the 12/01/2015 “Tuesday TV” entry via THIS LINK HERE) was airing on TNN at 4p & 7p US eastern.

#3
David Frizzell
“I’m Gonna Hire A Wino To Decorate Our Home”
You know how some songs just paint a clear picture in your mind? This is 1 such tune for me! As a kid, I remember listening to this song & picturing my parents’ home decorated as described. The single hit the airwaves 05/29/1982, spent 23 weeks on the country charts & claimed #1, Frizzell’s only solo chart topper (he notched a #1 tune with sister-in-law Shelly West in 1981’s “You’re The Reason God Made Oklahoma”, previously featured in the 10/21/2015 “Wednesday Wrap” entry via THIS LINK HERE). This El Dorado AR-native singer-songwriter-guitarist is the younger brother of the highly successful Lefty Frizzell.

#4
Freddy Fender
“Wasted Days & Wasted Nights”
[For more info about FF’s hits & history, check out the 08/15/2015 “CD Showcase Memories” entry via THIS LINK HERE.] This song debuted 06/21/1975, spending 16 weeks on the country charts, 2 of those at #1; it crossed over & reached #8 on the Billboard Hot 100. This tune was the follow-up to his debut hit, 1975’s “Before The Next Teardrop Falls”, which had spent 2 weeks atop the country charts & 1 week at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. He joined the group Texas Tornadoes in 1990, underwent a kidney transplant (thanks to his daughter Marla) 01/24/2002 & died of cancer 10/14/2006.
