‘Freaky Friday’ (a childhood favorite of mine) is a 1976 comedy-fantasy that debuted in theaters just in time for the holidays, 12/17/1976. Based on Mary Rodgers’ 1972 novel of the same name, this film was directed by Gary Nelson for Walt Disney Productions. While the mother-daughter switch occurs on a Friday the 13th, the actual reason for the switch is never revealed, though it is sparked by both characters wishing to switch places with the other at the same time. The cast includes: Barbara Harris, Jodie Foster, John Astin, Patsy Kelly, Dick Van Patten, Vicki Shreck, Sorrell Booke, Alan Oppenheimer, Ruth Buzzi, Kaye Ballard, Marc McClure, Marie Windsor, Sparky Marcus, Ceil Cabot, Brooke Mills, Karen Smith, Marvin Kaplan, Al Molinaro, Iris Adrian, Barbara Walden, Shelly Jutner, Charlene Tilton, Lori Rutherford, Jack Sheldon, Laurie Main, Don Carter, Fuddle Bagley, Fritz Feld, Dermott Downs & Jimmy Van Patten. 2 remakes followed: 1995’s TV adaptation (with Shelley Long, Gaby Hoffman & Drew Carey) & 2003’s big screen movie (with Jamie Lee Curtis, Lindsay Lohan & Mark Harmon).
