ALBUM:
‘Greatest Hits’, 1985
ARTIST:
Lee Greenwood
LG is a Los Angeles CA native, who worked as a blackjack dealer in Las Vegas NV, 1973-1977. The singer-songwriter married former Miss TN, Kimberly Payne, 04/11/1992. [For more about LG’s hits & history check the 05/25/2015 “CD Showcase Memories” entry via THIS LINK HERE & the 07/01/2015 “CD Showcase Memories” entry via THIS LINK HERE.] This record (which I own on vinyl) was released in 1985 (shortly before his best stretch of his career) & features 10 songs. Side 1 has 1984’s “Fool’s Gold” (#3), 1983’s “Somebody’s Gonna Love You” (#1), 1981-2’s “It Turns Me Inside Out” (#17; his debut release), 1982’s “She’s Lying” (#7) & 1985’s “Dixie Road” (#1); Side 2 has 1982-3’s “Ain’t No Trick” (#7), 1982’s “Ring On Her Finger, Time On Her Hands” (#5; his 2nd single), 1983’s “I.O.U.” (#6; Country Male Vocal Grammy), 1983-4’s “Going, Going, Gone” (#1) & 1984’s “God Bless The USA” (#7; CMA Song Of The Year).

FEATURE SONG # 1:
“Fool’s Gold”
Similar to 2 other songs on Side 1 (“It Turns Me Inside Out” & “She’s Lying”), this song has had many reincarnations of relevance in my life. However, the relevance that always comes to mind happened shortly after the song hit the airwaves. The single debuted 08/18/1984, spent 25 weeks on the charts & peaked at #3. It was on the rise in early September 1984 when my parents traded “my” car for a 1982 Chevette. I still can’t tell you exactly why or how this song caught my attention in relation to the ’76 mc, but I distinctly remember playing this song & thinking of that car
.

FEATURE SONG # 2
“Going, Going, Gone”
Of the songs on Side 2, this is the only 1 (other than the previously-featured “God Bless The USA”) that really resonates with me. Debuting 12/17/1983, this single spent 19 weeks on the country charts & claimed #1 in early 1984, his 2nd chart topper, behind his prior release, 1983’s “Somebody’s Gonna Love You”. While I remember liking this song when it was new, it has been relevant to me in later years. His next release? The aforementioned “God Bless The USA”!
