Amid tears, Erika remembers (flashes back) to Cathy telling her: “…life is short & you never know when someone you love may be taken away from you.” As this memory passes (memory sequence dissolves to the present), Erika looks at Cathy & tells her she can no longer lie to Jake about the baby, Laura, etc.
Richie begins to push Julia away, realizing his plan is being crushed by this sudden acceptance of Julia. Julia protests & refuses to leave. Undaunted, Richie tells her “fine — suit yourself” & goes to call Erika.
Jake arrives at the church to talk to Erika & to offer his assistance (considering she is caring his baby).
Mack calls out for help. 2 nurses come & help Jackie back to her room. Mack follows.
Steve arrives at the hospital to speak to Jackie about the fatal collision.
Inmate # 1369 is seen at the prison wondering about what is happening, especially if Alicia has discovered the tape recorder in her pants pocket yet. As she does, the audience is shown the pants (with the recorder in the pocket) lying on a bench in the same jail cell Alicia is occupying. (Alicia is changed into a jail gown.)
Desmond quickly changes the subject by noting how difficult it was to identify Matthew’s body. Virginia adds she was sure it was as difficult for Pastor Cathy, who had to identify Michael’s body. Amy walks into the room to announce no new news about the missing boys.
Troc, Wendleton’s hired help, asks Wendleton about the release of Vicky (Inmate # 1369). Wendleton says she should be out of prison soon. Hearing quite enough, Michelle prepares to go, but knocks over a garbage can in the process of leaving.
In another place, far from Manchester AZ, a young, 30-something couple (Bailey & Camille) are talking during lunch about finding the daughter(s) of an older woman (Becca) close to death. Camille comments about the package including enough information & momentos to clue the relatives they are needed. Bailey tells Camille they never should have trusted the person with whom they sent the package.
Jake finds Erika in the sanctuary. Cathy & Erika exchange a “speak of the devil” glance as Jake asks how Erika is doing. Cathy quickly excuses herself & gives Erika a “you better tell him” look as she leaves. Erika tells Jake she is doing fine. Nervously, she tells him she needs to tell him something. Jake nods in acknowledgement, but just as Erika is about to tell him everything, her phone begins to ring. At 1st, she ignores the phone, but Jake tells her to go ahead & answer it. She reluctantly fumbles into her purse for it & answers in a low “I’m busy” tone. When she hears Richie’s voice on the other end, she quickly excuses herself & walks a little farther from Jake.
