‘Raw Deal’ is an action film that debuted in theaters 06/06/1986 &, 1 might say, lived up to its name. Directed by John Irvin, the movie’s original production goal was to help Dino De Laurentiis inject some quick cash into his long-standing project ‘Total Recall’, for which he’d cast Patrick Swayze in the lead role. Because of the horrendous box office performance of ‘RD’, De Laurentiis eventually filed for bankruptcy & sold the rights to ‘TR’. Still under contract to De Laurentiis for several ‘Conan The Barbarian’ sequels, Arnold Schwarzenegger agreed to star in ‘RD’ to dissolve the multi-picture agreement. Schwarzenegger eventually ended up with the role he really wanted … the lead in ’TR’. Filming for ‘RD’ was done on location in Chicago IL, Castle Hayne NC & Wilmington NC at the De Laurentiis Entertainment Group Studios. This movie’s original title was ‘Let’s Make A Deal’, but was changed during production-filming to ‘Triple Identity’, a nod to the lead character’s transformation from an FBI agent to a small-town sheriff to an undercover operative. ‘RD’ was settled on as the title to make the movie seem more like a regular action motion picture. The cast also included: Kathryn Harrold, Darren McGavin, Sam Wanamaker, Paul Shenar, Steven Hill, Joe Regalbuto, Robert Davi, Blanche Baker, Steve Holt, Sven-Ole Thorsen, Ed Lauter, Robey, Victor Argo, George P Wilbur, Denver Mattson, John Malloy, Lorenzo Clemons, Dick Durock, Frank Ferrara, Thomas Rosales Jr, Jack Hallet, Leon Rippy, Doug Billings, Norman Maxwell & Tony DiBenedetto.
