This record (which I own on vinyl) was released in early 1987 as his 2nd album; it features 9 songs, with 4 released as singles: 1987’s “Cinderella” (#5, Side A), 1987’s “Let’s Do Something” (#16, Side A), 1988’s “Everybody’s Sweetheart” (#11, Side A) & 1988’s “The Radio” (#39, Side A). Side A features 1 more tune (the album’s title track), while Side B offers 4 unreleased tracks: “Baby That’s Tough”, “Losing Your Love”, “It Doesn’t Matter Anymore” (written by Paul Anka & originally recorded by Buddy Holly in 1958, charting posthumously for Holly) & “Something’s Missing”. Once again, all of these songs have become favorites of mine, considering how often I played the record when I was younger. Given that his career really didn’t take off until the early-mid 1990s, I’ve often wondered how these songs would’ve faired had they been released in the prime of his career, vs. near its start.

FEATURE SONG # 1:
“The Radio”
This song debuted 06/04/1988, spent 10 weeks on the country charts & peaked at #39. I don’t know why it didn’t fare better on the charts; I think it is a great song, partially because it pairs 2 of my favorite topics: the road & the radio. Given its chart position, I am not surprised I do not remember actually hearing this on the radio … but I do remember playing it many times on the record. Luckily, my other 2 favorites from Side A, “Cinderella” & “Everybody’s Sweetheart” (noted above & both of which have been previously featured on OC,SH), charted well.

FEATURE SONG # 2:
“Something’s Missing”
Along with “Losing Your Love”, I really think this song should’ve been released as a single; maybe it would’ve had it been on 1 of his later albums. To me, it has a raw, lonely emotion that captures a feeling we all feel at some point in our lives … that 1 thing that is missing to enrich us. Yet, even while feeling that, we know we don’t NEED that missing thing to complete us….
