“What Are We Doing In Love”
Dottie West & Kenny Rogers
[For more info about DW’s hits & history, check out the 03/11/2015 “CD Showcase Memories” entry via THIS LINK HERE; for more info about KR’s hits & history, check out the 02/11/2017 “Smorgasbord Saturday” entry (& prior features linked) via THIS LINK HERE.] This song hit the airwaves 04/04/1981, spent 15 weeks on the country charts & claimed #1; it crossed over & peaked at #14 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was this duet pair’s 3rd & last chart topper; their prior #1 tunes were 1978’s “Every Time 2 Fools Collide” (2 weeks) & 1979’s “All I Ever Need Is You”. They had other familiar favorite duets, including 1978’s “Anyone Who Isn’t Me Tonight” (#2) & 1984’s “Together Again” (#14).

#2
“Faking Love”
TG Sheppard & Karen Brooks
[For more info about TGS’ hits & history, check out the 04/30/2016 “CarTunes Saturday” entry via THIS LINK HERE.] For Brooks, this song represents her only Top 15 hit; the Dallas TX-native singer-songwriter only had 2 other Top 20 tunes, 1982’s “New Way Out” (#17; immediately preceeded “Faking Love”) & 1984’s “Tonight I’m Here With Someone Else” (#19). This single debuted 11/20/1982, spent 20 weeks on the country charts & claimed #1 in early 1983. For whatever reason, this song had a lasting impression from my childhood. I can remember listening to it on my bedroom radio & in the car … & wondering what exactly it meant. Now, as an adult, I know … & it has greater meaning….

“Without A Trace”
Marie Osmond
[For more info about MO’s hits & history, check out the 07/13/2015 “CD Showcase Memories” entry via THIS LINK HERE & the 11/11/2015 “Wednesday Wrap” entry via THIS LINK HERE.] This song was actually released as a single, 05/28/1988; it only spent 10 weeks on the country charts, peaking at #50. However, the 1st time I heard it on 1 of the CDs I have of hers, it struck me profoundly. Since, it has served to describe times of my life when I felt out of place, but then reached a point where I was in a good spot once again … such as NOW!

“Come Next Monday”
KT Oslin
[For more info about KTO’s hits & history, check out the 07/11/2015 “CD Showcase Memories” entry via THIS LINK HERE, the 11/04/2015 “Wednesday Wrap” entry via THIS LINK HERE & the 10/08/2016 “CarTunes Saturday” entry via THIS LINK HERE.] This single holds the title of being her biggest hit; it 1st graced the airwaves 09/29/1990, spending 20 weeks on the country charts, 2 of those at #1. Oddly, it proved to be not only her last chart topper (of 4 #1 tunes), but her last Top 25 hit, as none of her last 6 releases cracked that Top 25 threshold. Like Osmond’s song above, this KT Oslin song has proven to be true in my life many times.
