Monday, a friend shared a meme that asked: what do you call a person who is happy on Monday? The answer: “retired”! But … in my case, I’d also call that person “on a road trip”. Had great driving weather & a great day. Worked just over 2 hours in the morning before going to see friends for lunch. I left Dixon IL ~2:50p US central & stopped for a half hour or so in Marseilles IL (~4p). I was dreading the I-80 to I-294 to I-94 part of the trip because I would be hitting Chicago’s rush hour … at rush hour. Except, it wasn’t your typical rush hour. In fact, I literally rushed through Chicago. I slowed down considerably (to under 30 mph) only twice that entire time. I made a half-hour pitstop in Paw Paw MI for a quick snack & a stretch of the legs, & continued to Okemos MI, where I arrived at my friends’ home ~10:30p US eastern. Not bad! I will spend Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday working, crafting for OC,SH & a few other personal goals-projects while my friends are at work & school.
Now … as to what “grinds my gears” & “clogs my engine”: The above image shows the steering wheel & driver’s dash of my 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis, a car I absolutely LOVE. HOWEVER … notice the cruise control buttons on the steering wheel, clearly visible on the right side of the image. Notice how, in the dark (left side), you can’t see them AT ALL. I’ve owned 2 prior “new” cars, both of which had those controls lit such that you could see them at night. Yes, I should know “which is which”, but … a little light would greatly help. Other indicators on the dash & doors are lit up, so I don’t understand why a “luxury” car does not have the cruise control buttons highlighted at night. ALSO: I noticed, particularly while driving, the H/L indicator for the battery was conspicuously low. I’m not sure if that is something about which to be concerned or not….
Yeah. It’s obvious that the cruise buttons don’t have any illumination. Weird.
As for the battery, I’m guessing the gauge is broken. If you want to stop by on the way home, we can see if the alternator is putting out voltage. Or I think Pep Boys does free battery testing.
Exactly……weird & a little frustrating!
That’s kinda what I was thinking … broken gauge. It’s not like it’s not starting or anything is dim … at least, not that I’m aware of, anyway. When I venture out of the house for a bit either tomorrow (Wednesday) or Thursday, I might check around here to see if any place would check it for free, too. We’ll see. TY, Ben!
