Route 66-based story (by OC,SH’s founder, inspired by his 09/2009 Route 66 road trip)

CHAPTER 75: ALL IT NEEDS IS A LITTLE TIME

“Good morning & hello again everybody!” the youngest opened his radio show. “It’s just about 9:30 in the midwest, & I’m broadcasting to you on WSM, Nashville TN, LIVE from Rich Henry’s Route 66 Rabbit Ranch in beautiful Staunton IL, just southish from Country Classic Cars, right along I-55. But, I gotta tell you, the Rabbit Ranch is a MUST see along the Mother Road. Cars, mainly VW Rabbits, & live Rabbits will capture your attention immediately. & Rich
great guy. You MUST stop here when you are making YOUR journey along Route 66. My brother & I started our day in Litchfield IL, stopped to visit the gas station in Mount Olive, visited Benld & arrived here in Staunton just about an hour ago. Rich showed us around the place. Did you know he has a car that is NOT a Rabbit? That’s right
he has, get this, a triple black 1973 Monte Carlo he bought brand new! Well, it doesn’t look so new right now, but he told us he plans to restore it some day. Yeah, all know how “some day” works, don’t we? You can see pics of it on our social media, & I know many of you are following along as my brother & I travel Route 66. Ahhh, enough chatter from me! Let’s hear some good stuff from someone else; here is Jeff Carson, with “The Car”
as the song goes, Rich, “All it needs is a little time
.”

With that, Carson’s song started & the youngest turned to give a thumbs up to his brother & Rich, who was smiling.

“How long you doing the live broadcast today?” Rich asked.

“Oh, probably for a half hour or so,” the youngest replied. “We have a full day today, including another live broadcast from Ted Drewes in St Louis.”

“Ah, yes, I did see that on your schedule,” Rich admitted. “Good stuff. The weather should be good for your live outdoor show.”

“I certainly hope it is,” the eldest chimed in, while his younger brother did some behind-the-scenes prep for his next segment. “If not, that live remote could get rather
 interesting.”

MEANWHILE, back at the family business, as the song continued, the shopkeeper observed to the middle sibling: “Told ya he was broadcasting from Staunton today!”

“Yep, you did,” acknowledged the middle sibling, who was filing papers in her older brother’s office.

“& ya know, yer brother is right,” the shopkeeper started to note.

“Right about what?”

“All it takes is some time
.” the shopkeeper replied. “That don’t only apply to cars, ya know.”

“I know,” replied the middle sibling. “I hope we get some visitors today.”

“I’m sure we will,” the shopkeeper said, noticing the middle sibling’s attempt to change the subject. “I’m not worried, it’s still fairly early.”

“I just hope they aren’t staying away because my brother isn’t here
.”

“Why on earth would you think that?” the shopkeeper queried, somewhat startled at the notion.

“I don’t know,” the middle sibling admitted.

“Ah, look, some visitors are pulling up now,” the shopkeeper said. “I’ll go’n’greet ‘em.”

“Cool,” the middle sibling said, while the shopkeeper hurried out of the office. “I’ll be right there, too.”
