Wendleton’s hired help begins to usher the boys away from the scene, but Adam remains frozen in his tracks, sensing something is not quite right with this “helpful stranger”. The sirens become louder, indicating rescue personnel are closer. In desperation, Wendleton’s hired help appeals to the boys by asking if they really want to get “caught”. Donnie & Barry shake their heads “no”, looking to Adam for his approval. Barry verbalizes their uncertainty to Adam, noting Adam said nobody really cares for them anyway. Adam begins to agree, but suddenly realizes that the “nobody” includes this stranger. Adam then spots Steve’s police car quickly approaching the scene & changes his mind relenting to let the stranger lead them away. Relieved, Wendleton’s hired help whisks the boys from the scene.
Steve arrives at the scene & immediately recognizes both vehicles involved. He notices rescue efforts have already begun, especially for Matthew. Steve asks a paramedic about the person driving the GMC; the paramedic tells Steve that occupant is dead. Another paramedic rushes up next to Steve to advise the driver of the Chrysler New Yorker is also dead. This news puts Steve on edge; he flashes back to the conversation he & Matthew just had about taking the time to spend time together with their cars. A 3rd paramedic comes up to confirm the names of the victims, asking Steve to notify next of kin to identify the bodies at the morgue.
Erika finally has a chance to speak, telling Cathy she (Erika) knows she (Erika) shouldn’t have done what she did, but can’t do anything about it now. Cathy tells Erika she must do something about it; Erika can start by telling Jake the truth about the baby & Laura. Erika, trying to think of a way to get out of telling Jake about Laura, mentions to Cathy that telling Jake about Laura would actually be a disservice to Mack who is trying to prove he is Jake’s grandfather by bringing Laura back….
Julia & Alicia (with guard) arrive at the same time on the floor where Jackie is. Julia can’t believe Alicia is out of the prison. Alicia explains why, but Julia asks the guard to verify Alicia’s story, which he does. Alicia tries to be sensitive, telling Julia to go into Jackie’s room 1st. However, Julia realizes they need to be united in strength to support their mother; Julia suggests they go into Jackie’s room together. Alicia agrees.
Leaning close to Jackie in her hospital bed, Tammy tells Jackie nobody threatens her (Tammy) & gets away with it. Tammy adds that if she (Jackie) is not careful, she (Tammy) will start talking about what she overheard….
Virginia asks Desmond what decision do they need to discuss. Desmond waves off Wendleton’s comment as a little inside joke, while giving Wendleton an “I dare you” glare. Surprisingly, Wendleton agrees with Desmond & begins to laugh, albeit weirdly. Just as Virginia turns to leave, Wendleton’s cell phone rings. Virginia turns back around….
