“The Bob Newhart Show” aired originally on CBS, 09/16/1972 – 04/01/1978, including 142 episodes in 6 seasons. Created by David Davis & Lorenzo Music, the show centers around a Chicago psychiatrist & his home & work life. A Saturday night staple, usually following the successful “The Mary Tyler Moore Show”, “TBNS” aired at 8:30p US central the 1st 4 seasons, then moved to 7:30p for the 5th season & 7p for the last season. The exterior shots of the Hartleys’ apartment building were of the Thorndale Beach North condominiums, 5901 N Sheridan Rd, Edgewater-Chicago IL. Series characters appeared in later TV shows, including: Elliot Carlin in a 1985 episode of “St Elsewhere” (in which Betty White also guest-starred), Elliot Carlin in a 1987 “ALF” episode, Bob & Emily appear in the 1990 finale of “Newhart” (at the end, it is revealed that the later show was just a dream of Bob’s from the earlier show) & Bob in a 1994 episode of “Murphy Brown” (during which he begs Carol to leave her job as Murphy’s secretary & come back to Chicago). The cast stars include Bob Newhart (Bob), Suzanne Pleshette (Emily), Bill Daily, Peter Bonerz, Marcia Wallace (Carol) & Jack Riley (Elliot).
