CD SHOWCASE MEMORIES

Spinning the records

& turning the tables on automotive photos!

This week’s feature is Exile’s 1986 ‘Great Hits’ album & 2 tunes: “Woke Up In Love” (Side 1) & “The Girl Can’t Help It” (Side 2), both of which happen to be the 1st single on their respective side. This week’s featured interior: yellow Chevy pickup at the 09/11/2016 Austin TX Cars’n’Coffee.

‘Greatest Hits’, 1986
ARTIST:

For more about this band’s hits & history check the 07/31/2015 “CD Showcase Memories” entry via THIS LINK HERE, the 11/04/2015 “Wednesday Wrap” entry via THIS LINK HERE & the 02/17/2016 “Wednesday Wrap” entry via THIS LINK HERE. This record (which I own on vinyl) features 10 great tunes, including (following the 2 feature songs mentioned & noted below) on Side 1: 1984’s “I Don’t Want To Be A Memory” (#1), 1984’s “Give Me 1 More Chance” (#1), 1985’s “She’s A Miracle” (#1) & 1985’s “Hang On To Your Heart” (#1). Then, on Side 2: “1985-6’s “I Could Get Used To You” (#1), 1984-5’s “Crazy For Your Love” (#1), 1986’s “Super Love” (#14) & a re-recording of their pop hit, “Kiss You All Over”.

FEATURE SONG #1:
“Woke Up In Love”
Know how some songs will remind you of other tunes? Well, this tune has always reminded me of the theme to “Mama’s Family”! The band’s 2nd release after 1983’s “High Cost Of Leaving” (#27), this single debuted 12/03/1983, spent 22 weeks on the country charts &, in early 1984, became the band’s 1st Top 10 & 1st chart topper, sparking a string of 4 straight #1 tunes.

FEATURE SONG #2:
“The Girl Can’t Help It”
Unlike today, not too many GH albums of the 1970s & 1980s featured previously unreleased material. This was an exception; I played this entire record “so much” when I was younger, I can almost remember hearing the song on the radio
. I’m not sure why it was never released as a single, even from the GH album.
