Route 66-based story (by OC,SH’s founder, inspired by his 09/2009 Route 66 road trip)

CHAPTER 74: OF CARS & RABBITS

By the time the shopkeeper dropped the middle sibling off at the family business, the 2 brothers had already visited the gas station in Mount Olive IL & visited Benld IL & were en route to Staunton IL. As they neared town, bound for the Ra66it Ranch, from where the youngest was scheduled to do a live broadcast on WSM, the oldest caught a glimpse of Country Classic Cars … & a whole bunch of rather interesting classics. The eldest sibling steered the tan 1976 Caprice Classic sedan into CCC’s parking lot … & just stared.

Anxious to get to Rich Henry’s, the youngest slightly nudged his brother, noting they really couldn’t buy anything anyway. The eldest nodded, saying: “Yeah, I know. I’ve heard a lot of … tales … about this place, I just kinda wanted to check it out. I guess I didn’t realize it is so … expansive … not to mention, expensive.”

Without much other discussion, the eldest turned the Caprice around, drove out of the parking lot & down the pavement of Route 66. Less than 10 minutes later, the Caprice was rolling onto the gravel driveway of the Ra66it Ranch. With nobody else there at that time of the morning, just after 8:30a, the eldest parked the Caprice right near the front door, where Rich was waiting for them with a smile, & a bunny rabbit.

After some greetings & pleasantries, Rich showed the brothers around the place … the VW Ra66it Ranch (VWs in the ground, much like the Cadillac Ranch in TX), his live rabbits & a 1973 Monte Carlo he bought brand new & plans to restore “some day”. Then, around 9:20a, the youngest started setting up for the live remote broadcast….
