Parts written during lunch break at work, Thursday-Friday, 10/08-09/1998

[After writing the 08/28/1998 entry, September 1998 got away from me with several different events & projects, but I picked up right where I left off in October….]

Erika hears Cathy’s voice on the other end of the line & seems relieved, yet rushed. Cathy quickly asks Erika why she has not answered the phone the other times she (Cathy) called. Erika tells Cathy she is working on something important & must go soon. Before Erika has a chance to hang up, tho, Cathy blurts out that Mack is convinced he is going to bring Laura back to town. Erika “freezes” in shock at this news, capturing Jake’s attention as he peers at her from a distance. Hearing nothing in reply from Erika, Cathy quickly continues, warning Erika she had better “come clean” about everything … Laura, her (Erika’s) lost pregnancy, etc. Erika still says nothing. Cathy prompts her with an “are you there?”, waking Erika from her trance; Erika simply says “yeah”. Sensing Erika wants to talk in person, Cathy tells Erika she (Cathy) is at the hospital & will wait for her at the chapel. Erika responds with an “oh, OK” & quickly hangs up. Jake asks her if anything is wrong with her or the baby. Erika just stares blankly at him. Then, coming further out of her shock, Erika hurriedly tells Jake everything is fine, but she really has to leave right away. Jake pushes her for a further explanation, but Erika refuses & goes out the door, with Jake in “hot pursuit”.

Julia & Richie arrive at Richie’s home at the same time….

Wendleton tells Desmond not to turn his help down so hastily….

Jake follows Erika out the door, but she spins around & puts her hands out to stop him. She tells him not to worry … everything is/will be OK. Reluctantly, Jake lets Erika go. Erika heads to the hospital to meet Cathy.

Richie is surprised to see Julia at his door. Julia asks him point blank about what is going on. Richie seems to want to tell Julia everything about his plan, but he does not because he is afraid it would compromise what he is trying to accomplish. So, Richie calmly asks Julia to leave, telling her he does not want to see her anyone. Julia vehemently protests but to no avail. As a last-ditch effort, Julia passionately kisses Richie. For a brief moment, Richie starts to give in, but he eventually stops himself. He turns around, goes inside & closes the door in Julia’s face. Rejected, Julia leaves.

Desmond is shocked by Wendleton’s statement. Noticing this, Wendleton says to Desmond: “Come now, you know me better than that.” Continuing, Wendleton eludes to having people with the 3 boys (an untruth), so if he (Desmond) wants to see the 3 boys alive again, he (Desmond) better comply with Wendleton’s demands. Desmond refutes this, saying he knows how Wendleton works & knows he (Wendleton) is just bluffing to get what he wants again. Wendleton warns Desmond to not be too sure of himself.

Steve welcomes Alicia with a hug as she comes off the bus. She starts crying while asking how bad her mom (Jackie) is. Steve tells her to wait a minute; he will take her to the hospital.

Cathy looks in on Mack to be sure he is still sleeping before she heads to the chapel to meet Erika.

Christina arrives at KMAZ-TV & “runs into” Amy. Christine & Amy get to talking, & Christine eventually tells Amy about seeing Jenna at the cemetery.

Carl arrives at Jackie’s room & asks how she is doing. Jackie inquires as to what he has heard so far from others. Carl says he has heard nothing, & Jackie seems pleased.

Timothy arrives at the police station. From a short distance, Steve spots Timothy, & though he (Steve) is reading the report on the fingerprints at the restaurant, he notices Timothy is somewhat nervous.

Adam, Barry & Donnie see Matthew’s 1996 Chrysler New Yorker get hit by a huge truck. Adam is the 1st to realize that truck is actually Michael’s GMC that crushed the driver’s door of Matthew’s car. Wendleton’s hired help happens upon the scene as well, just after impact; he spots the boys & freezes in his tracks.

Getting restless sitting with a lifeless Olivia, Tammy decides to get a drink of water. En route, she considers going to Jackie’s room to talk with her about what she overheard….
