CD SHOWCASE MEMORIES

3 songs from my 02/16/1996 (Friday) “CD Showcase” (12p-1p) college radio show: Doug Stone’s “Come In Out Of The Pain”, Vern Gosdin’s “Chiseled In Stone” & Shenandoah’s “2 Dozen Roses”. Also featured: an OC,SH original of a Cadillac, boat & Motor Home, just west of Rochelle IL, which I photographed 05/21/2011 on the way to the May Madness Meet’n’Greet I put together & hosted in Franklin Grove IL. [Next week, I’ll feature a photo I took while in Franklin Grove IL, 01/24/2017!]

#1
“Come In Out Of The Pain”
Doug Stone
[If interested in a bit more of Stone’s history & hits, check out the 11/14/2015 “CarTunes Saturday” entry via THIS LINK HERE.] I think this tune is powerful & most (if not all) of us can somewhat identify with it at some point in life. Debuting 03/21/1992, this single spent 20 weeks on the country charts & peaked at #3. At the time, it was Stone’s 7th straight Top 10 to start his career, with all but 1 of those 7 reaching the Top 5. Stone’s string of Top 10s stretched to 15 through early 1995. Of 7 more releases, early 1995 to early 2000, only 3 reached the Top 20, with none cracking the Top 10.

#2
“Chiseled In Stone”
Vern Gosdin
I think Gosdin is a forgotten artist. This Woodland AL-native singer-songwriter-guitarist’s career launched with 1977’s “Yesterday’s Gone” (#7) & stretched to early 1993. This tune came near the end of his career; hitting the airwaves 08/27/1988, this single spent 23 weeks on the country charts & peaked at #6. It also won the CMA Song Of The Year. Gosdin notched 19 Top 10 tunes; other familiar favorites include 1983’s “If You’re Gonna Do Me Wrong” (#5), 1984’s “I Can Tell By The Way You Dance” (#1; a favorite of mine), 1987-8’s “Do You Believe Me Now” (#4), 1988’s “Set ’Em Up Joe” (#1; tribute to Ernest Tubb), 1989’s “Who You Gonna Blame It On This Time” (#2), 1989’s “I’m Still Crazy” (#1; another favorite of mine) & 1989-90’s “That Just About Does It” (#4).

#3
“2 Dozen Roses”
Shenandoah
[If interested in a bit more of Shenandoah’s history & hits, check out the 08/31/2015 “CD Showcase Memories” entry via THIS LINK HERE.] This song debuted 09/16/1989, spent 26 weeks on the charts & claimed #1, becoming their 3rd straight chart topper behind 1989’s “The Church On Cumberland Rd” (2 weeks) & 1989’s “Sunday In The South”. It was also their 5th straight Top 10, with only 1 of those not reaching the Top 5. That streak stretched to 10 straight Top 10s through mid-late 1991.
