[Between mid July & late August 1998, I spent time reviewing & “taking inventory” of FC’s plot history, along with some “brainstorming”, during lunch at work 9 days & in the evening at home twice: 07/28-30/1998, 08/02-03/1998, 08/06/1998, 08/10/1998, 08/12-13/1998 & 08/26-27/1998.]
Before Steve arrives, Michael decides to leave the restaurant because he is distraught-mad at himself for not looking for the boys more the night before. Michael drives around a little while & then ends up at the church to pray.
Steve arrives at the restaurant & speaks to Matthew about the evidence at the restaurant that indicates the boys had been there. Steve calls a crime scene team to finger print dust, etc., & takes the pencil into evidence.
At the gravesite, Christine “sees” Jenna, who tells her mother she (Christine) should get back into life by writing another book for Rockingham Publishing Company. Jenna also tells her mother (Christine) the boys will be found, but at a severe cost. Jenna begins to say something else, hesitates & quickly “vanishes”.
Desmond & Virginia “cooly” acknowledge Wendleton’s presence. Desmond immediately recognizes Wendleton, but Virginia does not seem to know who he is. Wendleton asks to speak to Desmond alone; Desmond ushers him into his private home office. Wendleton proceeds to tell Desmond he (Wendleton) is very sorry to hear about the missing boys &, for a price of ownership of the Manchester Phoenix, he will help Desmond find the boys. Without hesitation, Desmond turns down Wendleton’s help-offer.
Now at KMAZ-TV, Amy gets the news division to increase their coverage about the missing boys.
Cathy excuses herself from Mack’s presence, which he doesn’t mind since he needs to sleep. Once out of Mack’s earshot, Cathy tries Erika’s cell phone, but Erika does not answer.
Frustrated that Richie is not answering his phone, Julia decides to go to his place to see what is happening.
While doing his best to ignore his cell phone, Richie cunningly follows Erika (who is also ignoring her cell phone, to concentrate on where she is going) to Jake’s, but since he (Richie) is unable to pursue further &/or listen to the conversation after Erika arrives at Jake’s, Richie quickly leaves the scene.
Jake is stunned when the doorbell rings. He opens the door & is somewhat disturbed to see Erika standing there. Nevertheless, he asks her in, at the precise moment her phone rings again. Somewhat perturbed & embarrassed, Erika quickly excuses herself to answer the phone.
Steve tells Matthew they are done with what can be done at the restaurant at this point. Steve & Matthew chat a bit, with Steve complaining (jokingly) he is in the middle of detailing his Monte Carlo & can never seem to find the time to finish the job properly in 1 setting. Matthew agrees, saying he never seems to have enough time to enjoy his Plymouth Prowler. As Steve & Matthew end their conversation & start to go their separate ways, they agree to meet sometime soon with the cars. Steve goes back to the police station, & Matthew heads to KMAZ-TV.
Christine calls out to Jenna, but receiving no response, Christine, a bit spooked, promptly leaves the cemetery.
Satisfied Michelle is not at the hospital, Timothy leaves to go to the police station. Meanwhile, Carl goes to talk to Jackie in her hospital room.
Having prayed for a while, Michael gets the sensation he needs to be at the police station & heads there.
Steve arrives at the police station at the same time as the jail bus carrying Alicia.
Matthew, driving his 1996 Chrysler New Yorker, enters an intersection via the green light. His car is promptly hit in the driver’s side door by another vehicle. Matthew is killed instantly. The collision is witnessed by 3 people.
