“Little Rock”
Reba McEntire
[If you’re interested in McEntire’s history & hits, check out the prior features, including the 10/15/2016 “CarTunes Saturday” edition via THIS LINK HERE & the 11/19/2016 “CarTunes Saturday” entry via THIS LINK HERE.] This tune hit the airwaves 06/28/1986, spent 19 weeks on the country charts & claimed #1. It was the 2nd of 3 straight chart toppers, preceded by 1986’s “Whoever’s In New England” (Country Female Vocal Grammy) & followed by 1986-7’s “What Am I Gonna Do About You”. Of those 3, I much prefer this song for its up-tempo beat & if-you’re-gone-then-I’m-moving-on mentality! This was, somewhat rather inexplicably, 1 of my favorite songs of the day….

“Little Rock”
Collin Raye
[If you’re interested in Raye’s history & hits, check out the prior features: the 09/07/2015 “CD Showcase Memories” entry via THIS LINK HERE & the 10/29/2016 “CarTunes Saturday” entry via THIS LINK HERE.] Like McEntire’s tune above, at the time this Raye single was popular, it was 1 of my favorite songs of the day, but for vastly different reasons. This poignant tune tells the tale of a recovering alcoholic getting a new start. While I don’t identify with the lyrics 100%, I can certainly identify with the idea of starting over with a new start, but missing parts of the former life. The song debuted 04/09/1994, spent 20 weeks on the country charts & peaked at #2. In my opinion, it should’ve claimed #1.
