CD SHOWCASE MEMORIES

Welcome to this new theme! It effectively replaces “Wednesday Wrap”. As the rollout continues this week, you will see that each weekly theme has a sibling; this theme’s sibling will debut in this timeslot Saturday, 01/07/2017. Meantime, each week, this theme will “turn the tables” literally & figuratively. You will see at least 2 “vinyl favorites” (that used to be played on the turntable, of course), along with turning the tables on vehicle pictures, showcasing the interiors vs. the exteriors (which are seen the most).

For this debut edition, a few holiday tunes you may not have heard this season [Epiphany isn’t until Friday, 01/06/2017!], along with an Oldsmobile Cutlass convertible interior, seen at Cars’n’Coffee, Austin TX, 09/11/2016:

Medley:
“Alfie, The Christmas Tree”
“Carol For A Christmas Tree”
“It’s In Every 1 Of Us”
John Denver & The Muppets
This comes from the TV special “John Denver & The Muppets: A Christmas Together”, originally airing 12/05/1979 on ABC. The record was released October 1979, & my parents still have the 1 they bought for us kids. It became an instant holiday favorite album & still is for me today. (A different song from this same album was featured last year, 01/06/2016, via this LINK HERE.)

#2
“Kentucky Homemade Christmas”
Kenny Rogers
This childhood holiday favorite of mine comes from Rogers’ 1981 album ‘Christmas’. My grandparents (Mom’s parents) bought a vinyl copy of that record (which I now have), & I remember being excited to spend time at Gram & Gramps’ house in Decembers
just to hear this entire record. This tune is Rogers’ 1st official holiday single, & is my favorite on the album. (A different song from this album was featured last season, 12/16/2015, via this LINK HERE, along with another tune you probably haven’t heard yet this season: Collin Raye’s “What If Jesus Came Back Like That?”)

#3
“Rockin’ Little Christmas”
Deborah Allen
Another childhood favorite of mine, this tune is on the album ‘A Country Christmas, Volume 3’ (of which I have a CD copy), released in 1984. Allen is the singer behind such tunes as 1983’s “Baby I Lied”, 1984’s “I’ve Been Wrong Before” & 1984’s “I Hurt For You”.

#4
“I’ve Got What You Want For Christmas”
Louise Mandrell
This tantalizing holiday tune is from the album ‘A Country Christmas, Volume 2’ (of which I have a CD copy), released in 1983. Mandrell & then husband R.C. Bannon released the tune “Christmas Is Just A Song For Us This Year” in 1983 (when it peaked at #35 on the country charts); that tune had originally appeared on the album ‘A Country Christmas, Volume 1’ (of which I also have a CD copy), released in 1982. Mandrell & Bannon’s most-successful duet was a version of “Reunited”, which peaked at #13 on the country charts in 1979. Mandrell’s other tunes include 1983’s “Save Me”, 1984’s “I’m Not Through Loving You Yet” & 1985’s “Maybe My Baby”.
