Here we are, late December 2016, & it is still a bit difficult to believe: the Chicago Cubs are the 2016 World Series Champions!  As a “long-suffering, die-hard” Cubs fan, the 2016 Major League Baseball season was magical, for the record books & the stuff of which legends are made.

The 1st season I really remember as a kid was 1984: year of the Sandberg Game 06/23/1984 (2 game-tying home-runs against St Louis closer Bruce Sutter, who had been with the Cubs), the National League Eastern Division Title & losing 3 straight games to the San Diego Padres, all in San Diego, after winning the 1st 2 games of the National League Championship Series (5 games then) at Wrigley, including a 13-0 win, featuring a Rick Sutcliffe home run.
But, after Tinkers to Evers to Chance, Durham-Dunston-Dawson; Santo-Sandburg-Sosa; & even Jack Brickhouse, Harry Caray & Pat Hughes … so many Cubs greats never got to play in (or call) a World Series game … even for awesome teams in 1969, 1984, 1989, 1998, 2003, 2007 & 2008, among many others.  But, the 2016 squad did … & they won.
1 of my favorite Christmas gifts is the special edition Baseball Voices CD chronicling the Cubs’ 2016 season, featuring the home-town radio calls on Chicago’s 670 AM WSCR, which took over the radio flagship from Chicago’s 780 AM WBBM starting in 2016.  Or, am I dreaming all of this?
