This song hit the airwaves 09/05/1981, spent 16 weeks on the charts & peaked at #2, sandwiched between a pair of chart toppers: 1981’s “I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool” (with George Jones) & 1982’s “‘Till You’re Gone”. Just over 7 years after Mandrell’s tune, this song debuted 01/23/1999, spent 26 weeks on the charts & claimed #1. It was this Cleveland TN-native’s 1st chart topper, 5th Top 10 single & follow-up to 1998’s “Don’t Laugh At Me” (#2, 2 weeks). From mid 1999 to mid 2007, Wills had 13 more releases, with only 3 of those reaching the Top 15: 1999’s “She’s In Love” (#7), 1999-2000’s “Back At 1” (#2) & my favorite of his, 2002-3’s “19 Somethin’” (#1, 6 weeks).
