#1
âRub It Inâ
Billy Crash Craddock
I suppose it depends on your mood whether this song is âfunâ or âsensualâ ⊠or both! Whichever it is, this single debuted 06/01/1974 & spent 16 weeks on the country charts, 2 of those at #1; it crossed over & reached #16 on the Billboard Hot 100. Known as âMr Country Rockâ, this Greensboro NC-native singer-songwriter-guitarist had 2 other country chart toppers: 1974-5âs âRuby, Babyâ & 1976-7âs âBroken Down In Tiny Piecesâ ⊠but neither had the reach of this song. Craddockâs country career spanned early 1971 to the mid 1980s, with over 40 releases, including 16 additional Top 10 tunes. Before that career, though, he had formed the rock band the Four Rebels with his brother, Ronald, in 1957.
#2
âHere You Come Againâ
Dolly Parton
As with many artists, it would take quite a few weeks for me to showcase all of my favorites of hers. This song hit the airwaves 10/15/1977 & spent 19 weeks on the country charts, claiming #1 for 5 straight weeks; it crossed over & reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 2 weeks. Later, it won the Female Vocal Grammy. This Locust Ridge TN-native singer-songwriter-guitarist-actress career started January 1967 ⊠& hasnât stopped. She was a regular on Porter Wagonerâs TV show (1967-1974) & then branched out on her own. She starred in several movies: â9 To 5â (based on her song of the same name), âThe Best Little Whorehouse In Texasâ, âSteel Magnoliasâ & âStraight Talkâ (featured HERE previously). Among many other familiar favorite tunes: 1974âs âAll I Will Always Love Youâ (#1; also topped the charts in 1982), 1980âs âStarting Over Againâ (#1), 1982-3âs âHard Candy Christmasâ (#8), 1985âs âDonât Call It Loveâ (#3), 1985-6âs âThink About Loveâ (#1) & 1989âs âWhyâd You Come In Here Lookinâ Like Thatâ (#1).
