#1
“The Yellow Rose”
Lane Brody & Johnny Lee
This single hit the airwaves 02/04/1984, spent 22 weeks on the country charts & claimed #1. It proved to be Brody’s only chart topper; her other Top 20 tune, 1983’s “Over You”, was featured in this entry HERE. This song has the same melody as “The Yellow Rose Of Texas”, but the name was changed to reflect the new lyrics, dictated by the song’s use as the theme to TV’s “The Yellow Rose”, which aired 22 episodes between 10/02/1983 & 05/12/1984 & starred Sam Elliot, Cybill Shepherd, Chuck Connors & Noah Beery Jr. For Lee, this song was his 4th of 5 chart toppers. Lee was also featured in this entry HERE.

#2
“What I’d Say”
Earl Thomas Conley
[If interested, see the prior ETC features HERE & HERE to read more about him & his career.] THIS song of his is 1 of those that has been relevant to my life many times & has put to words some of my thoughts over the years; I’m guessing many of you can relate to that type of “signature” tune in your life. This single originally debuted 11/12/1988, spent 24 weeks on the country charts & claimed #1 in early 1989. At the time, it was a 6th straight chart topper for him, a string that stretched to 7, with 1989’s “Love Out Loud”.

#3
“The Thunder Rolls”
Garth Brooks
During this show, this song was requested by Jonathan B, the brother of a college friend of mine, Kevin B. If you’re interested in more of Brooks’ history & info, check out this prior feature in this entry HERE. This is 1 of my favorites of Brooks, partly because of the thunderstorm sounds. The single debuted 05/18/1991 & spent 20 weeks on the country charts, 2 of those at #1. It capped a run of 5 straight chart toppers, preceded by 1990’s “The Dance” (3 weeks), 1990’s “Friends In Low Places” (4 weeks; CMA Single Of The Year), 1990-1’s “Unanswered Prayers” (2 weeks) & 1991’s “2 Of A Kind, Workin’ On A Full House”. Other familiar favorites not mentioned in the prior feature include 1993-4’s “Standing Outside The Fire” (#3, 3 weeks), 1995-6’s “The Beaches Of Cheyenne” (#1) & 2007’s “More Than A Memory” (#1, the only song to ever DEBUT at the top of the charts).
