Unlike “Unsolved Mysteries” featured HERE last week, “Rescue 911” was an informational docudrama series hosted by William Shatner; it featured reenactments (sometimes real footage) of emergency situations which usually began as 911 calls. While it was never intended to be a teaching tool, viewers acknowledged what they learned from watching it. Originally a set of only 3 specials, the show was picked up by CBS for the 1989-1990 season after the 1st 2 specials aired 04/18/1989 & 05/09/1989. The regular series debuted 09/05/1989 & ran 7 seasons, ending 08/27/1996. A Tuesday night staple through all but the last season, an episode was played during the rain delay of the 1990 MLB All-Star Game, hosted by Chicago’s Wrigley Field. The series sparked model kits by AMT-ERTL (1990 Ford Taurus police car, Dodge ambulance & a Rescue helicopter), MatchBox cars, a slot car set & a pinball machine.
