In the United States, today is National Food Day, National Bologna Day & National United Nations Day! How will you celebrate?
Monday’s Leadoff Drive:
new-to-me 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis
(Yes, I will update the “ABOUT CORT”!)
As my 1979 Caprice Classic told y’all in this LINK HERE, I am sad to say goodbye to it & will miss it. I have MANY fond memories of the 1979 CC … for starters, a road trip to Richmond IN & my fascinated Nephew rolling the windows up-down … but given all I’ve endured, from situations & people (etc.), I needed a change.
THUS: I introduce my “Silver Streak” 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis, purchased 10/20/2016. Of the 3 prior owners, the last 2 were in the same family with 1 of those being a mechanic. So, I have some very cool documentation from most of its history. I’ve had a few “buyer’s remorse” pangs (the insurance costs are quite a bit more than I anticipated & I noticed a bit more rust on it than I had observed originally), but all will be fine. I’ll plan to get an estimate to repair the rust next spring, depending on finances. The 03MGM isn’t exactly what I wanted (not much of a leather-seat fan & would’ve preferred a different color combo), but I like the documented history. The lower-ish price (compared to some) helps, too. I’ve already started a fresh set of memories with it, taking the photos in the OC,SH original collage you see 10/22/2016 & 10/23/2016! Saturday, I took my Nephew & Niece #1 for a ~45-minute drive. Then, after I took a bunch more pics 10/23/2016, I went for a cruise & saw MANY vintage vehicles out for a “Sunday drive”; that made me melancholy & nostalgic for when I had a family of 1970s cars to enjoy similarly. Maybe someday I’ll get others on my list, such as a 1973 Ford LTD & a 1975 Caprice Classic convertible. For now, I hope to find an affordable year-round storage place close(r) to where I live [my home is the road] to move my 1981 Monte Carlo (which connects me to ALL the cars that’ve shaped my life) next spring-early summer … because it may be time to re-embrace that part of my past. Meantime, I’ll “swap cars” & drive my 1979 CC later this week while the 03MGM sees the “doctor” for a “checkup” & to repair a few minor things (tire leak, windshield wipers, etc.); then, I’ll have a detail shop give the 03MGM a “spa day”. THEN, my 1st road trip in the 03MGM will consist of a circular trip to Michigan (for a friend to fix some of my cavities) & southern IL (where I hope to get pics of the 03MGM & 81mc together)…. Check out this video I recorded of the 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis:
