What catches your spying-eye radar!?

“Matlock” is a legal drama that originally aired 03/03/1986 to 05/07/1995 with a switch to ABC, starting 11/05/1992.  The format is like that of CBS’ “Perry Mason” where the main character confronts perpetrators in courtroom scenes, except Matlock usually secured an acquittal at trial (vs. Mason’s ability to get results at a pretrial hearing).  Known for his thriftiness & fondness for hot dogs, Matlock also drove 3 generations of the Ford Crown Victoria during the series’ run.  The cast includes Andy Griffith (title role), Linda Purl, Kene Holliday, Kari Lizer, Nancy Stafford, Julie Sommars, Clarence Gilyard Jr, Brynn Thayer, Daniel Roebuck & Carol Huston.  Recurring cast members include Don Knotts (Griffith’s partner-in-crime in the famous 1960s “The Andy Griffith Show”), James McEachin, Michael Durrell, David Froman & Warren Frost.  A 2-part Season 1 episode led to a spinoff, “Jake & The Fatman”, which landed on CBS.  After “Matlock”’s run, Ben Matlock (Griffith) guest starred in a 1997 episode of “Diagnosis:Murder”, previously featured HERE.
